Nostalgia: I had terrible tastes in music (and probably still do)

Every once in a while (several times a week) I look back on the music I used to listen to growing up and laugh at the poorly written lyrics, realizing most of these songs had the same background music.

I've posted about this before with plenty of music videos, and this is exactly what I'm doing now, but with the added benefits of the worst lyric, interesting facts, and where they all are now. For some reason I'm fixated on the late 90s/early 2000s today.

JoJo - "Leave (Get Out)"
"It's too late and I can't wait for you to be gone." BURN!
Real Name: Joanna Noelle Blagden Levesque
Age upon album release14
Comes from: (born in)Vermont, (raised in) New Hampshire and Massachusetts
What she's up to now: Gearing up to release her third album: Jumping Trains
Were you aware she still existed? I sure wasn't.

More after the jump

LFO - "Summer Girls"
"There was a good man named Paul Revere. I feel much better, baby, when you're near." (there is no good lyric in this song)
LFO stands for: Lyte Funky Ones
Members: Rich Cronin, Devin Lima, Brad Fischetti (Brian Gillis quit in the beginning and was replaced by Devin Lima)
Where they are now-
-Rich Cronin started a new band that failed completely, then died of leukemia at age 36.
-Devin Lima joined a band named Cadbury Diesel, and appeared in American Pie: Beta House
-Brad Fischetti shaved his stalker 'stache and went solo, though his personal website only features a picture of him and a link to a record label next to a link to LFO's myspace.
-Brian Gillis (not the Magician, sadly) does not exist on the internet except for his short (1 title) IMDB credit where he played "Ricky" in some movie called "Shade"

Crazy Town "Butterfly"
"Trapped on a short leash paroled the police files. So yo. whats happening now?" Foreshadowing...
Band Members: (There were actually tons [9!], but only 2 worth mentioning. The rest were lackies.)
Bret Mazur (a.k.a. "Epic"), and Seth Binzer (a.k.a. "Shifty Shellshock")
Born n Raised: LA (of-fuckin-course)
Drugs: "Shifty" (blonde guy) might look familiar to you if you're into those rehab reality television shows. He's been featured on FOUR celebrity rehab shows (Celebrity Rehab 1 & 2, and Sober House 1 & 2)
These Days: "Shifty" was recently arrested for domestic abuse and outstanding arrest warrants for something drug and prostitution related.
WINNER
Epic Mazur had a kid and took over the record label Shifty started and abandoned for drugs.

Eve 6 - "Inside Out"
"SoCal is where my mind states, but it's not my state of mind." I actually love the lyrics to this song.
Band Members: James Maxwell Stuart Collins III (goes by Max Collins), Jon Siebels, Tony Fagenson
Name Origin: X-Files reference; a genetically engineered female (named Eve #6) mentioned biting a guard's eyeball, so Tony Fagenson thought he'd make a tribute band to badass Eve.
Then till now: They broke up for a while after their album sales tanked, but they're back together and currently in the midst of recording a fourth album.
Woot!

Lillix "It's About Time"
"I'm sayin goodbye to you, I say hi to you with no clue." I'm not sure I fully understand this song. I'm not sure they did either.
Band Members: there have been 12(!) members of this band. Mostly, it's just the Evan Sisters (Tasha & Lacy).
How they came to be: They started their band in high school in Canada, and were quickly discovered by Madonna
These Days: They released an album last year. I have no idea who is actually in the band. They're mostly relevant in Canada and Japan.

Shaggy - "It Wasn't Me"
this entire song is ridiculous
Age: 42 (now)
Background: Served in the US Marines during Operation Desert Storm. He is 1 of 2 reggae artists to get "Diamond" status for amount of albums sold world wide.
Now: Shaggy is currently recording his first album in 4 years. Can't wait!
I have no idea what he's saying ever.

Sisqo - "Thong Song"
"She had dumps like a truck truck truck, thighs like what what what, baby move your butt butt butt... All night long!"
Real Name: Mark Althavean Andrews
Bad Boy: In 2003 he was charged with assault, reckless endangerment, and resisting arrest. He apparently shot at a car from his porch
Ahem. What?: He was on a reality show in 2008 where he tried to make it as a country music artist.
Most recent work: He appeared on another reality show, this time on Big Brother (UK) with Ivana Trump and Stephen Baldwin.

Destiny's Child - "Bills Bills Bills"
"Can you pay my automo-bills?" hah. I see what you did there. Clever.
Drama resembling Beyonce's performance in Dream Girls: Assembling the ultimate trio didn't come easy. As you can see in the video, Michelle Williams isn't present and two other chicks are demanding sugar daddies. These other two are LaTavia Roberson and LeToya Luckett. After they got all famous and what not, both girls felt their manager (Beyonce's father) was taking too much profit and favored Beyonce and Kelly (who was living with them for quite some time due to family drama). What did they expect? Michelle Williams Farrah Franklin became the replacements. Farrah left because of the drama surronding Luckett and Roberson, and the group became the trio we know and love.
Why they're in a hair salon: When the group first started, they used to practice in Beyonce's mother's salon and got tips from her clients.

OK. I can't stand any more of this. I need to listen to a shit-ton of The Doors, Nine Inch Nails, and Rage Against the Machine to make up for all this cotton candy pop music.

  1. I remember all these songs. I'm morbid so the most interesting was about the guy of LFO passing. Those were horrible lyrics music just is not the same. There was this Brazilian group kinda like Lonely Boys who had big hits in their country and all died in a plane crash you can see the graphic video on youtube

  2. Yeah, I never heard about the dude from LFO until I went Wiki-crazy the other day. Who are the Lonely Boys? You mean Los Lonely Boys? I don't really want to see graphic videos of people dying. Thanks, though.
